I do like a list. Here’s what has been watched in March 2017.
With my Wolfy rating next to the IMDB one. I try to do my rating before I see the IMDB ones. They are surprisingly close, bar a few, that either blew my mind or that I enjoyed on fun factor alone.
Had five x 10 star hairy wolfie awards this month. They get awarded to films that really stayed with me and hit all the right notes in all the right places.
23 films this month and a total of 78 since the start of this blog.
Not so many this month due to watching Iron Fist on Netflix. Umm it really wasn’t that good and all over the place but worth it for the Drunken Master and the episode with the boss levels. Anyhoo here’s the list.
Patriots Day (2016) – Wolfman Rating 8 – IMDB Rating 7.4
Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg meet up for another hit on real events. TBH it was a lot better than I had expected. The alleyway scene was totally bombastic!
A Midnight Clear (1992) – Wolfman Rating 10 – IMDB Rating 7.2
Peter Berg on the other side of the camera with Ethan Hawke, Kevin Dillon and more. I really enjoyed this and it stayed with me. Wolfie write up here
The Siege of Firebase Gloria (1989) – Wolfman Rating 6.5 – IMDB Rating 7.1
Absolutely ridiculous crazy violence and some of the most lunatic dialogue. I have to one day do a post on this one.
The Jungle Book (2016) – Wolfman Rating 7.5 – IMDB Rating 7.5
Bill Murray as Baloo, nuff said.
Sunday Too Far Away (1975) – Wolfman Rating 8.5 – IMDB Rating 7
Been hitting the Australian film back catalogue. This was most excellent and it’s about sheep shaving! Wolfie write up here
The Long Day’s Dying (1968) – Wolfman Rating 10 – IMDB Rating 7.1
Another one hit the Wolfie top viewing this month! Welldone Mr Hemmings. Wolfie write up here
The Day of the Dolphin (1973) – Wolfman Rating 5.5 – IMDB Rating 6.0
Such a massive fan George C Scott especially as he reminds me of my grandad. This movie has talking Dolphins! perfect Sunday matinee film but I found it pretty boring if I’m honest. How could it be boring with talking blooming dolphins……..
A Boy and His Dog (1975) – Wolfman Rating 8.5 – IMDB Rating 6.6
Oh I really enjoyed this very un-pc post-apocalyptic tale, it’s just so original. Wolfie write up here
John Wick (2014) – Wolfman Rating 7.5 – IMDB Rating 7.2
After seeing the second one last month I watched the first one again with my family. The action is bodacious dude!
Mikey and Nicky (1976) – Wolfman Rating 6.5 – IMDB Rating 7.4
Peter Falk and John Cassavetes together as childhood friends. Oh this film should smash the wolfie meter right out the roof and it certainly did for the first half but dare I say I got a little bored. I so wanted it to be another The Killing of a Chinese Bookie.
Logan (2017) – Wolfman Rating 8 – IMDB Rating 8.5
The Wolverine film we’ve all been waiting for. A few things I didn’t like but overall fantastic film and brilliant day with the family at the cinema.
Cutter’s Way (1981) – Wolfman Rating 6.5 – IMDB Rating 6.9
A different type of detective movie with Jeff Bridges and a shouty John Heard. Wolfie write up here
Night Moves (1975) – Wolfman Rating 8 – IMDB Rating 7.2
Gene Hackman private eye on a road trip detective trip. Great film. Wolfie write up here
Men in War (1957) – Wolfman Rating 8 – IMDB Rating 7.4
Robert Ryan and a film stealing performance from Aldo Ray in this Korean War story of a platoon left behind in enemy lines.
Unman, Wittering and Zigo (1971) – Wolfman Rating 10 – IMDB Rating 7.1
Another smasher from David Hemmings this month. A sublime British thriller. Wolfie write up here
The Girl With All The Gifts (2016) – Wolfman Rating 6.5 – IMDB Rating 6.7
Oh how much did I want this to be a ten! Sennia Nanua is absolutely terrific in the leading role. It starts so brilliantly but unfortunately it just starts falling apart. I need to read the book.
Off Limits (1988) – Wolfman Rating 8 – IMDB Rating 6.2
This was very much enjoyed. Such an eighties film but such an unconventional detective story. Great buddy movie too. Wolfie write up here
Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) – Wolfman Rating 10 – IMDB Rating 8
That opening scene blew my freaking mind. Wolfie write up here
Le Samouraï (1967) – Wolfman Rating 10 – IMDB Rating 8.1
Another ten from the wolfman. Wolfie write up here
Breaker Morant (1980) – Wolfman Rating 8.5 – IMDB Rating 7.9
Another well written drama from the Australian film archives. Want to do a post but can’t do them all. It’s got Edward Woodward.
Billy T – Te Movie (2011) – Wolfman Rating 8.5 – IMDB Rating 6.9
Fascinating story of one of New Zealand’s entertainer Billy T James. Great documentary featuring tons of footage. Less known outside of NZ so this is an essential film if you are a fan of 80’s sketch shows and comedy.
Valdez Is Coming (1971) – Wolfman Rating 6 – IMDB Rating 6.8
Burt Lancaster as a Mexican-American sheriff having to take on a bunch of banditos and bad guys. Not as good as I had hoped but a great ending.
Red Sun (1971) – Wolfman Rating 7.5 – IMDB Rating 7
Yep just look at that cast, in a western. Has to be seen. Wolfie write up here
April is filling up well. Lots more beer, bourbon and popcorn. Thanks for reading and if there’s any in this month’s viewing selection you liked now or back in the day, feel free to let me know.
