Oh you visited for a run down of the story? Oh ok! British agent HughBulldogDrummond (Richard Johnson) is a tough no-nonsense James Bond like secret agent.

Deadlier Than the Male (1967) British agent Bulldog Drummond Richard Johnson Bond

He’s brought into this murderous plot after his friend is killed in a so-called scuba diving accident.  With two glamorous sexy assassins, Irma Eckman (Elke Sommer) and Penelope (Sylva Koscina) causing havoc with the board members of an oil company. Bulldog Drummond is assigned by them to find why the assassinations are happening. A mission to find out who is behind these dastardly plans but really, does anyone really care? And with Irma and Penelope turning up the pressure, it’s like the title says, these two ladies are Deadlier Than the Male.

Tagline – These are the women to put up a man’s pulse rate – and stop it . . . stone dead!

Yeah it’s not that great but who cares. It’s all tongue in cheek with lots of giggles and cheesiness in abundances. Everyone plays their part well. The girls are crazy hot, the baddies lair over the top, the hero, like his counterpart Bond, a lady magnet. It’s all very entertaining. Oh there’s also, if you were wondering? bondage, bullet cigars, torture, integration, explosions, time bombs, lots of flirting and even a little espionage! There’s also a sequel called Some Girls Do (1969). I might have to visit that one for educational research reasons!

Must be classy with the tagline “Some girls will do anything in the dark……. Even murder!”

You probably already noticed Virginia North in the photos above. She’s otherwise known as Vulnavia the love of The Abominable Dr Phibes and she’s insanely beautiful! Also keep an eye out for Yasuko Nagazumi who played Yasko in Space 1999 and other beauties like Justine Lord, Sylvana Henriques, Kitty Swan, Jill Banner, Didi Sydow and Suzanna Leigh. And for the ladies you’ve got, well, Nigel Green and umm Leonard Rossiter!

Deadlier Than the Male (1967) is on Youtube in full to stream if you fancied a look.

Ok that’s enough dribbling for the day. The next post will counterbalance this sexy female heavy film with a movie full of dirty sweaty blokes!!!! But wait, do come back, it’s a first-rate drama with a killer end!

Enjoy having fun with movies…. Mikey Wolf

  1. You had me at ‘Penelope’! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Mikey…I went over to YouTube and watched the first five minutes or so, and was hooked, so I (ahem) ‘saved’ it for a later viewing. But I loved the ’60s Bond-like action and atmosphere, and I really love Elke Sommer, so I’m looking forward to watching the rest.
