Wolfy Needs His Cat Nap

What happened to the saying “Once bitten twice shy?“. You know what, I put it down to being the same as giving birth to a second child. “Come back, stay with me! Please let me explain.” I’d stupidly done this post everyday for the month of January the year before. With my sci-fi special. It nearly killed me. I vowed to never do it again! Yet idiot me forgot the pain. Just like a mother giving birth for the first time says “JHC WTF! I ain’t going through that shitting insane pain ever again!” Only (for some) to start brewing up another pain machine in the womb a year or so later. Ok my gestation time might be a little shorter than 9 months but the pain is the same. (Oh course I jest)

It started well. Cheated a little. Over the festival holiday I had 11 days off. I managed to get in 10 films and started compiling the reviews. I got cocky! Worked it out if I did a film every two days I’d walk it. Sorted. Then I miss one and then another. My back up films were getting used up. I stayed cool. Not for long. It dawned on me I had 10 days left of January and 10 films to watch with reviews to write. Determined not to fail I soldiered on. Each day after work and after dinner I spent 3 hours frantically writing, trying not to repeat myself. Finish review, post then, watch the next film. Up for work at 5.30am. Repeat! So you see it’s exactly the same pain as giving birth. “Wouldn’t you agree Mrs Wolf?POW! I return to consciousness about an hour later wondering what I’m doing in a heap on the floor with a throbbing black eye!

The moral of this story is Mrs Wolf only went through that pain twice with our two gorgeous children and I now know that two January everyday posting specials is the last time I’ll do that.

So to wrap the month up I have combined the IMDB rating score along with my Wolfman ACTION & FUN rating and my very own Wolfman over all film rating. Below is that score and where the action movie ranks on the 1 to 30 list.

Wolfman’s Rating System Explained – We All Have A System Don’t We?

30 films this month and a total of 30 this year
745 since the start of the blog in January 2017.

I do so very much appreciate all the views, comments and chats over the month. There are some I missed I know but it became impossible to reply to all. So this week I will be catching up with fellow blogs, comments and to be honest, gonna have a little rest.

However I will be back posting in a week. Lots of movies planned. February will have a prison movie, a thriller alongside a soundtrack in my collection. A few film noirs I’d seen last year and held back for reviews. I might be reviewing a film that could become the newest one to be featured on my site! The last video rental I hired before Blockbusters shut down. Hoping to revisit the Q&A’s of the action reviews but give them a little tweak.

This here lunatic thanks you all for putting up with me filling the wordpress feed up.

All the best and happy vibes……. Mikey Wolfman

  1. Mikey, as you know, I have virtually camped out around the clock on your site for this past month. You have provided so much pleasure for a fellow film buff the likes of me. A thousand thank you’s!

My top three favourites from the thirty were – ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (masterpiece!) – COBRA – and BEVERLEY HILLS COP. Last week, TIMECOP appeared on television over here (Brisbane, Australia) so I recorded it to give it a rewatch – generated by interest from your review.

All the many hours you devoted to this gi-normous project was so worth it as far as I, and I am sure many others, am concerned. To venture on this time tunnel trip with a host as funny and insightful as you was a massive pleasure all-round. For someone to resurrect these movies and take us back to a time ‘When we were Kings’ (to quote the title of the famous 1996 Muhammad Ali documentary) was a dream come true and made me feel like I was 18 again. And for that I am very grateful.

You deserve a long break after that Herculean effort.
    Three cheers for you.
    Hip hip… hooray!

    • Well that comment is getting printed off and framed! Duuuuude that is such a great comment. Massive smile this morning reading that. Of course it made my day/month. Haha I don’t really want to take responsibility for Timecop! It’s uber cheesy but go there for Mia Sara and Gloria Reuben and the rest is pure gravy.
A big thank you for all the excellent comments over the month. It’s been awesome dude.
I will definitely be revisiting this format again soon as it’s really been fun and so many more to re-watch or discover.
      Thanks again Glen.
      All the best…. Mikey

    • Many thanks Mike.
Hope to use the formula again through-out the year and pick up on ones that got missed. I’d liked to have got a Seagal in there. Chuck managed to get four! I blame Netflix for that. hehe. Loved watching the Bronson’s too.
And of course it was all about the laaaaaadies.

  2. What cool way to end a cool month: the Top 30 Countdown, by overall review score! This was a fun thirty days, Mikey, and I’m looking forward to next January, when you have ‘Burl Ives Month’ and post TWO reviews a day!

As promised, here are my Top 5 from your list that I haven’t seen, but that you’ve convinced me to check out thanks to your reviews. In no particular order:
    1) 10 to Midnight
    2) Shakedown
    3) Wanted Dead or Alive
    4) Timecop
    5) Action Jackson (“Bold adventure, is his game!”)

And here are my Top 5 that I HAVE seen, and thought were quite entertaining, cheesy or otherwise:
    1) Beverly Hills Cop
    2) Escape from New York
    3) Commando
    4) Lone Wolf McQuade
    5) Fortress

    And now, you may rest.

    • Two a day! Head explodes like a Mars Attacks alien. I had to look up Burl Ives, haha a whole month dedicated to him. I have know idea who he is but I had better start watching his film throughout the year! LOL.
Todd you’ve picked a great 5 there. Hope you can source them over the coming months for some great viewing. Be cool to hear what you thought of them if you do find the time. Well unless you say they were the worst films that you had ever had the misfortune in seeing and start a campaign to boycott that horrible fluffy beast’s movie site immediately…………
🙂 Bro thanks for joining in on the months shenanigans. I do really appreciate it.
